Waiting on Wednesday: Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that book bloggers are eagerly anticipating.

This week's WoW pick is a departure for me, an adult fiction book written by one of my favourite actresses!

Someday, Someday, Maybe
Author: Lauren Graham
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Expected publication date: April 30, 2013

From Goodreads:
A charming and laugh-out-loud novel by Lauren Graham, beloved star of Parenthood and Gilmore Girls, about an aspiring actress trying to make it in mid-nineties New York City.

Franny Banks is a struggling actress in New York City, with just six months left of the three year deadline she gave herself to succeed. But so far, all she has to show for her efforts is a single line in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters and a degrading waitressing job. She lives in Brooklyn with two roommates-Jane, her best friend from college, and Dan, a sci-fi writer, who is very definitely not boyfriend material-and is struggling with her feelings for a suspiciously charming guy in her acting class, all while trying to find a hair-product cocktail that actually works. Meanwhile, she dreams of doing "important" work, but only ever seems to get auditions for dishwashing liquid and peanut butter commercials. It's hard to tell if she'll run out of time or money first, but either way, failure would mean facing the fact that she has absolutely no skills to make it in the real world. Her father wants her to come home and teach, her agent won't call her back, and her classmate Penelope, who seems supportive, might just turn out to be her toughest competition yet. Someday, Someday, Maybe is a funny and charming debut about finding yourself, finding love, and, most difficult of all, finding an acting job.

Guys, Lauren Graham wrote a book. About trying to become an actor. And it sounds hilarious. And competitive. And really, really fun.

Normally, I am not into celebrity books. I don't want to read autobiographies, or even biographies. But I do really like Lauren Graham, and there seems to be no end to her talents, so I'm curious.

Have I mentioned that I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan? I think a big part of that show's success is Graham's charisma and personality - Alexis Bledel is cute and all, but Graham just SHINES. And if she's managed to translate that to book form...well, there's no stopping her from taking over the world.

Are you looking forward to Someday, Someday, Maybe like I am? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know in the comments!

  3. Sounds good. Like the sound of it being less relationship orientated, haven't read something self-revelatory in a while.

  13. Lauren Graham is awesome! I didn't even realize that she had a book out. Usually I stay far away from celebrity fiction stories, but this seems like on that I could actually enjoy. Very much. I love the title, and the cover. They capture what the story is about so well. Yeah, I think I will give this one a shot!
